Thursday, December 26, 2013

I went to Melbourne on the 12th for 4 days for a shopping trip. I bagged few amazing bargain from DFO and various location in Melbourne.

First, I got a bag from fossil. The bag was first marked down to $83.95 from the original price of $199.00. But, there were an additional 40% off the marked-down price. I purchased it for $50. I wore it few times in Melbourne here.

I always love mickey and minnie. So, when I saw this funny shirt on culture kings, I just had to buy it.

I got floral crop top from ValleyGirl for $15. Here is a photo of me wearing it.

Plus, another floral scallop short from Forever New. I love love this short so much. It is really comfy and flattering my tummy lol. It was on sale and I got it for $25. They still have it in store if you are interested.

I also got 3 skirts from Esprit, Portmans and PapperScissors. I just haven't had a chance to take the pictures :p

Few days before Christmas, I made another shopping trip to DFO Homebush to help my brother with his Christmas shopping. I ended up got a cute swimsuit from Billabong. They had 50% off everything.  It comes in 2 colours, red and blue. I actually liked the red one better, but they only had size 14. Thank God, they still had my size in blue. I got this swimsuit for $45.

I also went shopping on boxing day with my friends this morning… Let me tell you, it was total chaos. Duh

First stop : Zara. They had lots of collection with floral design which I love… I got a black and white skirt. It really fits me like a glove.

When I wander around Pitt St Mall, I stopped by 'the local designer market' at the ground level. It's actually just outside Cotton On / Superdry. I'm sure you won't miss it since they occupy almost the entire floor. What I like about them is their uniquely design pieces.

I had to say yes to this flowery dress from 'Soul Keepers'. They had 30% sale, and I got this dress for $45.50. I was in between two colours, but I decided to go with turquoise colour.  You can check their website here.

Here how it looks on the website

Last piece I got today from Pitt St Mall is black crop top with floral cutout at the bottom. I got it for $25.

I also got floral headband from Sportsgirl for $12.95.

Overall, I am pretty happy with what I've got.
As you can see, I have been crazy in love with floral dresses lately. I also wear a lot of skirts and dresses these days.
I don't really know why. It could be seasonal or I might just exploring my feminine side? Who knows ;p

See you next time.

Homemade Banana Bread Recipe

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

I seriously love banana bread. Thus, I was ecstatic when I finally found great way to make it myself. This recipe is adapted from joyofbaking. I personally like my banana bread simple without nuts or anything. So if you like the variation, you can check her sites.

This recipe is really easy and you can pretty much mix everything in one big bowl. And most importantly, this banana bread is really yummy!

I waited until my banana turn brownish, as this is the sign the banana ripens. You want to wait until its ripens because then its flesh become very soft and sweet. It will be really delicious when mashed and baked in a bread.

Ingredients:
  • 1 3/4 cups (230 grams) flour
  • 3/4 cup (150 grams) granulated white sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 3-4 ripe large bananas, mashed well (approximately 454 grams or about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions :

  • Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Butter or spray the botton and sides of a loaf pan. Set aside.
  • Melt the butter in a microwave and set aside to let it cool completely.

  • Mash the bananas. Mine is really soft and I am just using fork.

  • In a large bowl combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt. Set aside.
  • In another bowl combine the mashed bananas, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. (wet ingredients)
  • With a rubber spatula or whisk, lightly fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients just until combined and the batter is thick and chunky.

  • Remember not to over mix the batter. You do not want it smooth. Over mixing the batter will yield though, rubbery bread.

  • Scrape batter into prepared pan.

  • Bake until bread is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean, about 55 - 60 minutes.

While waiting for your bread to cool, you can wash the dishes ;)

Don't sweat the little things

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

2013! What can I say. It's been a challenging year for me, especially for the last few months. It has not been an easy one. There were so many unexpected-unfortunate event happened recently, one bad thing after another. It was just non-stop.

My ex-landlord asked everyone in the house to move out last November,  only a week before the due date of my major assignment and my final exam. While most of my friends were busy studying, I was busy searching for a new place for me to live. If that's not bad enough, I also had to start packing all my stuff. Thank goodness when I finally found a place to live temporarily until January in the city. However I could not take all my stuff with me because I had a LOT of stuff. So then I searched for a temporary storage.

Fast forward to this afternoon. I just collected few boxes from the storage when I got a parking ticket.

My friend was helping me with the moving things, he parked the car outside my apartment building, on the loading zone. We quickly grabbed my stuff and put it upstairs. When we went back, we found a ranger issuing parking fine ticket!! Like WTH? we were unloading stuff from the car, and we just went for 5 minutes or so, and he charged us $169 ticket. We were trying to convince him to let us get away with it but he wouldn't budge. Sigh.

Let me tell you, that little incident in the afternoon almost ruining my whole day. I started to get upset  about everything. I started to think every negative situation happened to me recently. Somehow, I felt sorry for myself and I got really frustrated and started crying.

But, I learned a lot from today. It helped me realise few things (special thanks to my lovely friend).

First, do not sweat small stuff. More importantly, don't let them ruining your day. Especially, when you can't do anything to alter or change it.
Getting parking ticket can be considered as 'minor-issue', and we all know shit happens in life. I really shouldn't be so worked-up about this small small thing that doesn't really matter.

Secondly, when things don't go according to my plan, I tend to be grumpy. Why? Because, as a Christian believer myself, I am totally aware that God is in control of everything. He has the power to keep me away from the troubles and such. So, I was really disappointed when God giving me these non-stop troubles and plus, he didn't rescue me from such situation. LOL. I mean, think about it,  He has all the power to protect me from anything, to keep me away from troubles. But He didn't!

I was asking "Why? Why does God let bad things happen to us? Why would you let that happened to me?  and Why doesn't God help me in my troubles? Seriously, I mean WHY?"
lol That was very immature of me talking like that.

Anyhow, now since I am calmer, I kinda know the reasons why God let us experience uncomfortable situation. I read Jeremiah 29:11, God really does have a purpose behind our problems. I think it is more to do with teaching us a lesson. Sometimes these hardship are meant to strengthen us. We can be made stronger when we are awed at His deliverance from the impossible. And, after passing each testing, troubles, and remembering how we were delivered in the past, we have faith that He will guide us through the next time.

Whatever reasons It might be, ONE thing for sure. God only has a good plan for you and me. His plan is for our goodness, not to harm us.

We might not understand His way, but maybe one day we will.
As for now, trust Him with all your hearts. And don't let small stuff ruining your day.

XOXO

Mickey Mouse Cupcakes with oreos

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

I have been super duper lazy lately, mainly due to my summer break.. I been lazing around at home all day, catching up with friends, shopping and so on…
This is in stark comparison to what happened last week. I was so pumped after finishing my exams, and I managed to bake 2 cupcakes and 1 brownies in a matter of 5 days. lol…

Anyhow, last Wednesday I baked chocolate cupcakes for my friends. It was supposed to be for her birthday last October. I didn't have time to bake her cakes that time because I was extremely busy with my assignments and final exams. So, let's get started.

I got an idea to make mickey mouse cupcakes from Erica. It looks really cute and easy to make.

They are just made from regular chocolate cupcakes (I used boxed mix) baked in red liners, frosted, and then dipped in oreo crumbs. For the ears, I used 2 oreos. The yellow buttons are just from yellow sticky notes that I cut round shaped, attached after the cupcakes were baked.

Mickey Mouse Cupcakes with Oreos

What you'll need :
  • 1 cupcakes boxed mix or any cupcakes recipe you like (I used Betty Crocker Chocolate fudge cake mix, it yields 12-16 cupcakes)
  • frosting (I got mine from the boxed mix)
  • 1 package regular oreos
  • Toothpicks
  • Red cupcake liners
  • Yellow sticky notes

Instructions:

  • Bake cupcakes according to package's instructions. Allow to cool completely.
  • Crush oreos ( I only made few of mickey mouse cupcakes, so I'm not sure of the actual number of Oreos needed for a whole batch)

  • Frost cupcakes, trying to create a rounded shape. Dip each cupcake in the Oreo crumbs, making sure to cover all of the frosting.

  • There are two methods to attach the ears. First, I stuck a tooth pick in the cream centre of the cookie and snuggly attached them to the cupcake. Second method, I slit the cupcakes and insert the Oreo cookies in between.

left : using toothpick, right : slit method

  • Stick 2 yellow round shaped on the front of each cupcake liner.

 and VOILA!!
